Here is a really fun commercial that I was the DP for, filmed recently in Queenstown, New Zealand.
It was Directed by Myles Conti, and Produced by Conti Bros Films.
I filmed it using two cameras. A Red Weapon 6K was mounted in the MoVI M15 on the tracking buggy.
A Red Dragon 6K was kept in Production mode, so that I could move quickly between the set ups.
Drone filming was performed by Queenstown based Overview using a DJI Inspire 2 filming in 5.2K RAW. The drone images cut in perfectly with the Red cameras.
It was a cold tough environment for the crew to work in, and even tougher on our athletes who had to run up the hill all day. A massive credit to them!
I was lucky enough to work with Director Ryuhei Yokoyama again for Mitsubishi Motors.
We filmed in Australia, and I travelled there with my camera equipment, along with my MoVI Grip and Drone Pilot Josh Dunn.
We bought along our DJI Inspire 1 with X5R RAW Camera. Our company Overview has a CASA Part 101 Operators Certificate for flying in Australia. It's a terrific drone, and because it is so quick to deploy, we were able to film additional material very efficiently.
The line production was expertly handled by Kanta Yamaguchi from Green Tea Film and Television, and my local Brisbane based crew were excellent.
Snakes, crocodiles, spiders, leaches and ticks are an added bonus when working in Australia!
I am very proud to have been the Cinematographer on this clip with Mad Mike Whiddett and his Rad Bul.
Director Ryan Heron and myself had previously shot the Conquer the Crown clip, and it was great to work together with Mike again.
We had one day to film the clip, and we could only drive the car on the track between 8am and 6pm, so we needed to be fully prepared.
To achieve this tight schedule Ryan and I broke down the sections with the team and we shot only what we needed.
I used several different cameras, and I kept the camera and grip teams busy by shooting one setup while they were prepping and rigging the next.
I am very happy that we managed to keep the quality high. It's a testament to the talented crew behind the scenes. The reaction to this film by the fans has been great!
To see some more images there is a terrific Behind the Scenes video from Andy Deere and Heath Patterson.
